About me

My background

I’m a keen writer and love creating content that resonates with audiences and solves problems. I worked in corporate communications for UK government departments (Police IT, Health, Home Office) and Queen Mary University for nearly 12 years before becoming a teacher so I’m confident that I can help you to connect with your audience whether staff, stakeholder or general public, young or old. I love research and get excited writing about almost anything. I especially enjoy turning dry, difficult topics into engaging, accessible copy.

My skills / experience

  • writing and editing copy for the full range of online and offline channels
  • crafting business proposals, speeches, case studies etc
  • key messaging
  • working to tight deadlines
  • quality assurance of corporate communications
  • researching and writing copy on science, medicine, the humanities, health, social care, crime, policing, counter terrorism, IT and HR issues
  • creating and delivering communication strategies and plans based on audience insight
  • connecting with hard-to-reach audiences on complex topics (staff, change management)
  • extensive experience in staff and stakeholder communications.

When I’m not working

I’m a voracious reader of all sorts of fiction and non-fiction but I especially enjoy dystopian fiction, sci-fi and literary fiction. I have a (no longer so) secret dream of writing a novel set in a Digger community in 1640s England. I love music, going to gigs and great food – frequently cooked for me by my talented husband Neill. I stride out by the sea most days because it’s good for the soul and it might just help counter all of that delicious home-cooked food…
